Course Description:
US History II will cover the history of the United States from the end of the Reconstruction after the Civil War to Present-Day. Throughout the year students will learn about and analyze different social groups, political movements, economic changes, wars and times of peace that impacted the US from the late 19th Century to early 21st Century. We will also confront philosophical concepts about history, such as accuracy and objectivity in history.
As of now, there will be a state-required test (NC Final Exam) at the end of the year.

1st Quarter: West and South through Progressivism
2nd Quarter: Imperialism and WWI through Intro to WWII
3rd Quarter: WWII through The Sixties
4th Quarter: Seventies through Nineties
Materials:
For this class, you will need a three-ring notebook, paper, and pens or pencils. A spiral bound notebook will be fine as well, but be sure to have a folder or binder to keep track of materials distributed in class.
Grades are broken down as follows:
Standard Credit
Exams/Projects – 45%
Classwork – 30%
Homework – 10%
Quizzes – 15%
Honors Credit
Exams/Projects – 45%
Classwork – 20%
Homework – 10%
Quizzes – 25%
Late Work:
Assignments are considered on time if they are turned in by 4:15 pm the day they are due (even if it’s turned in electronically). If an assignment is turned in after that it is considered late.
Power Lunch Program:
This is a program to help students who are failing any and all of their core academic classes. If you have earned an F either on a Progress Report or a Report Card you will be required to spend lunches with the Power Lunch Teacher until you are no longer failing at the end of the quarter.
Absences:
It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to see me for make up work you missed when you were absent. According to Durham Public Schools’ policy, you have 5 days to make up assignments you missed when you were absent, but after those 5 days, late points will be deducted.

- Homework
- Standard – Loss of 10 points per day until the end of the unit. After the unit is over, the grade becomes a zero.
- Honors – Loss of 50 points per day until the end of the unit. After the unit is over, the grade becomes a zero.
- Projects: For both Standard and Honors, loss of 10 points every day the assignment is late.

- Quizzes/Tests – If you’re absent the day of a test or quiz you have 5 days to make it up starting from the day you return. After 5 days the test or quiz will become a 0%.
- Projects – If you are absent the day a project is due I still expect the project to be turned in via email or some other means. If it is not turned in on the due date I will not grade it.
